Japan’s NEC plans to close one LCD Factory and lay off 590 people
News on March 9, according to foreign media reports, Japanese NEC said that because of falling demand for liquid crystal displays, the company plans to turn off a liquid crystal display factory in southern Japan, and before 2010, the company will lay off 590 people. Last month, NEC announced that it would layoff 9,500 people and allow 450 Japanese workers for early retirement, lay off 9,000 people overseas, and close some factories and operations. NEC said it would close the factory in Kagoshima before the end of December this year and diversify their production into another Akita Factory. NEC also plans to move part of the functions of Kanagawa headquarters to Akita Factory.

In fiscal year, NEC will lay off 20,000 people to deal with a state of emergency
On January 30 news, according to foreign media reports, Japanese largest personal computer maker NEC Group (NEC Corp.) will lay off 20,000 people, which creates a new record since the world entered an economic recession. In addition, the company lowered full-year performance to 3.2 billion U.S. dollars loss.

NEC Group President KaoruYano in Tokyo Friday said, half of this layoff would involve in full-time employees, which would be completed before the March 2010.
