ASEAN wants to establish disaster insurance fund —Association of Southeast Asian Nations
On April 8, 2011: Finance ministers of ASEAN countries agreed to set up the regional disaster insurance fund to deal with natural disasters such as earthquakes and tsunamis .
Brunei , Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore , Thailand and Vietnam , including the finance ministers of ASEAN member countries met in Bali, Indonesia on April 8 , issued a joint statement to announce the plan after the meeting.
ASEAN and the EU to discuss cooperation

This shows that the two sides are committed to further strengthen cooperation and partnership. He said that there is no doubt that the European Union, the European Commission to join the Southeast Asian Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia and other will promote regional peace, security and stability. Thai Foreign Minister: ASEAN summit may be postponed to be held in March next year
With the anti-government protesters continuing to occupy the two airports in Bangkok, Thailand Foreign Minister Song Peng on November 30 said that Thailand may postpone the ASEAN summit to March next year. However, this summit is originally held from December 15 to December 18. Indonesia proposed to taking over the ASEAN summit host because of unstable situation in Thailand
Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said on the 1st, due to unstable situation in Thailand, Indonesia would be willing to host the ASEAN Summit. But Thailand expressed they would hold a meeting to make a final decision on ASEAN summit arrangements.
What is the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)?
It holds annual meetings in relation to economic and cultural development of Southeast Asian countries. These meetings are known as ASEAN Summit. The grouping regularly conducts dialogue meetings with other countries in an organization collectively known as the ASEAN dialogue partners. Dealing with strategic and security issues, this group of 10 countries is able to act without the pressures of the cold war powers, as it has refused entry to the U.S. It has become a bulwark against perceived American hegemony in the region. ASEAN + 3 adds China, Japan and South Korea after the agreement of ASEAN+3 Heads of Government Summit on Nov. 2001 in Brunei. U.S. influence continues to be resisted.
