JAL layoffs: JAL reported plans to lay off 16,500 people this fiscal year
News on April 6 reported that Japan Airlines (Japan Airlines Corp.) Plans to cut this fiscal year, 16,500 employees, about one-third of the number of existing staff. It is reported that Japan Airlines filed for bankruptcy protection in January, was originally scheduled to be laid off in three years. This year in June the company will submit a reorganization plan, and give up some unprofitable routes and sell its old aircraft. JAL now ask employees to retire voluntarily, but fail if the number of voluntary retirement and developed by the number of layoffs, the company will also consider initiatives such as hiring and firing temporary workers.
