Nissan encounters 233.7 billion loss and plans to lay off 20,000 employees in 2009
The report released by Nissan Motor Co. shows that, in the fiscal year 2008, Nissan encounters 233.7 billion loss ( about 2.4 billion U.S. dollars). This report shows, sales of Nissan in 08 fiscal year was 8436.9 billion yen, which reduced 22.1% compared with the last year.
In 09 fiscal year, Nissan’s vehicle sales plan is 3.08 million, which is much lower than the actual sale of 3.411 million in 08 fiscal year. In the new fiscal year, Nissan is expected to lose up to 170 billion yen. In January this year, Nissan sales in the United States declined by 31%. Nissan announced on the 9th, in the 2009 fiscal year, the company would lay off 20,000 employees, which is equivalent to 8.5 percent of the company.
