GM did not intend to close the Opel plant in Germany and Merkel decided to help
One of Opel factories in Germany Nordrhein-Westfalen Ruettgers, the governor in Detroit, with the president of GM Wagner after the talks, said that GM did not shut down the production base in Germany, Opel. Ruettgers Wagner also invited to go to the city of Bochum, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany, to visit the Opel production base there. German largest trade union organization – trade unions of metal and Opel enterprise committee had expressed their willingness to make every effort to save GM, but only if GM must retain four production bases of Opel Russelsheim in Germany (Rüsselsheim), Eisner Joseph (Eisenach), Bochum (Bochum) and Kaiserslautern (Kaiserslautern).

German state of Thuringia considered the acquisition of shares in GM Opel

Eastern German Economy Minister Juergen Reinholz told a local media.
