With 1.47 billion euros loss, Philips plans to lay off 6000 employees
On Monday, Europe’s largest consumer electronics maker Philips (Royal Philips Electronics), announced that because the holding assets of the two companies LG Displays and NXP are suffered huge losses and its television and multimedia equipment sector continues weak, the company encounter 1.47 billion euros loss in fourth quarter (about 1.9 billion U.S. dollars). Philips also announced that the company would lay off 6,000 people.

A. H. Belo layoffs in 2009

Newspapers Company A. H. Belo will lay off 500 people
On Saturday early morning news: Newspaper publishers AHBeloCorp. (AHC) announced that in order to cope with declining revenue, the company would lay off 500 people, which was equivalent to 14 percent of its total number of staff.

The company CEO Robert Decherd informed the employees of this decision in a memorandum and declared that the specific details would be announced by mid-February.

Caterpillar layoffs in 2009

Caterpillar will lay off 2110 people
On Friday evening news, Caterpillar Inc. (CAT) said the company would lay off approximately 2110 production positions in Illinois three production plants.

This layoff is complementarity for its 20,000 layoffs on January. Caterpillar said the latest measures would enable production levels in line with demand. The company said the layoffs would be started on April 13.
