In December 2008, the number of unemployment in Iceland hit 11-year record
According to latest statistics from the Labor Bureau of Iceland, the Iceland unemployment rate in December 2008 was 4.8 percent, whereas the number of registered unemployed people is 7902, which was increasing 45 percent compared with November and created the highest record since the record in January 1997.
In December 2007, the Iceland unemployment rate was only 0.8 percent, while the number of registered unemployed people is 1357. According to Labor Bureau predicted that by the end of January 2009 the unemployment rate would climb to 6.4% -6.9%.
