According to foreign media reports, OLPC (100 laptop project) announced Wednesday (January 7, 2009), because of the economic downturn, the agency would lay off 50 percent of employees and reduce the salaries of the rest staff at the same time.
OLPC founder Nicholas Negroponte in the blog said: “Just as many other non-profit agencies, in the face of the current economic downturn, OLPC also needs to cut costs through layoffs. Today, we have decided to lay off 50% of employees, while the rest 32 staff’s salaries will also be lowered. ”

EMC plans to lay off 2,400, which accounts for 7%
