Hu Jintao puts forward six proposals for the peaceful development of cross-Strait relationship
President Hu brings forward six proposals to improve the peaceful development of the cross-Straits relationship in a speech to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the mainland’s “Message to Compatriots in Taiwan” in Beijing on Wednesday.
The six proposals include:
1. To abide by the one-China principle and enhance mutual political trust;
2. To promote economic cooperation and promote common development;
3. To promote the Chinese culture and strengthen the spirit ties;
4. To strengthen personnel exchanges and expand exchanges from all walks of life;
5. To safeguard national sovereignty and consult with external affairs;
6. To end hostilities and reach a peace agreement.

China population growth and status quo

Bureau of Statistics report showed: Chinese population fell to 20.1 percent of world proportion
Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, November 3 – (Reporter Liu Zheng, Zhou Feng), the National Bureau of Statistics released the report showed that since the reform and opening, with the implementation of family planning policy, Chinese population fell to 20.1 percent of world proportion in 2007 from 22.2 in 1980.
National Bureau of Statistics reported that since the introduction of family planning policy, the national population reduced 400 million.

China’s population age structure is in a golden age
National Bureau of Statistics reported that since the reform and opening up, Chinese working-age population increased year by year, the proportion of the children has reduced. This kind of population age structure means not only rich in labor resources and less labor burden, but also a higher savings rate and strong social demand.

India Population Growth and Forecast

The United Nations forecast India’s population will exceed the number in China in 2050
The United Nations Population Fund report said that in 2050, the world major population growth is mainly from Africa with an average 2.3 percent rate of increase, while in Asia, the growth rate is 1.1 percent. The report said that by 2050 India’s population will be 1.658 billion (now 1.186 billion), China’s population will be 1.408 billion (now 1.326 billion). As a result, India will surpass China to become the biggest population country.

India’s population has 100 million net increase in 8 years
From the population, India is only second to China in the world. In recent years, India’s population is growing, particularly in respect of the urban population. In some ways, India’s population is similar to China’s population. In May 2000, India official population figures firstly reach one billion, while so far, India has 1.1 billion population, in 8 years, there is 100 million net increase. With current growth trends, by 2050 India’s population will be more than 1.7 billion, which will exceed China as the world’s most populous country.
